Artists Profile - Chen Yen Pheng

1982 saw the birth of this lively, fascinating and revolving artist from the Pearl of Orient. Since obtaining her formal education on Fine Art from Dasien Academy of Art Malaysia in year 2004, she has diligently pursue her dream of becoming an artist that not only be able to magically produce works of exceptional quality but also involving herself in influencing the art scene in Malaysia as well as coming up with art related program and interactive concept.

Her earlier works express her feel of being woman, her ideal of being a woman and her emotion of being one. Projection of women in many forms is weaved together with background pattern to further emphasis the co-relation of the feminine nature, their physic and desire. This range of her works has been very well received by the public.

From 2007 onwards, she has dedicated herself to produce more of environment theme pieces. She felt that it is only natural and right to convey the message across to the public via her works. At this junction she started to experiment with mix media to produce visual stimulating creation. Dump-site scenario, abandon electrical appliances and computer ware are commonly being splash across the canvas.

As she matured in her life, she started to look around her and realizes that society play an important role in her life. “Human” being the basis of society has a physical body. She questions the values of the physical bodies as well as the spiritual expect of being human. Here, her works depicting the human skull in various forms, position and scene, expressed her desire to share with her friends of “death it not the end of being human”. To her in death, the physically bodies continue to bring life to mother earth by fertilizing her.

September 2010 will be the time of her showcase to deliver the message of “living beyond” what is physical though her solo exhibition in Mahahati Gallery.
